For me every item that sits on my desk is functional and most of all intentional, I believe the smallest changes can make the biggest difference, and I find the use of a desk mat critical for the comfort of resting your palms whilst typing. but can a desk mat be more than just a nice surface to the touch that allows for smooth mouse use and writing? After a few months of using the Orbitkey Desk Mat, I thought I would share my views of it.
The Orbitkey Desk Mat is sleek and minimal in its form and design, featuring a vegan leather top surface with a nice subtle exposed stitching detail along the perimeter, it comes in two different sizes and colour options; black and stone (grey).
Right from the first impressions, there are notable differences to other typical leather desk pads on the market in both aesthetic/design and overall quality. The desk mat comes conveniently rolled up in a 100% recyclable & carbon neutral box that proudly wears a recently awarded Red Dot and iF Design award stickers. I recommend to unroll the desk mat and leave something heavy (pile of books) on it overnight to flatten it before use.
The Orbitkey Desk Mat is made from premium materials as you would expect from the brand who are most well known for their innovative key organisers. One of the main features of this desk mat is the stationary toolbar that keeps your work essentials organised and accessible at the top of the mat but out of way. The toolbar has nice bevelled edges to ensure your stationery items don’t move around whilst in place, it’s perfect for pens, memory cards, paper clips etc.
Furthermore you will find attached to the toolbar is a unique weighted zinc alloy cable holder that is magnetic, it can be moved anywhere along the toolbarto keep your cable/s in place and always within reach. No more tangles or cables falling off the table! It is worth noting that the magnet is very satisfying to use, the magnet itself is very strong and takes some finger strength to move, here you will find the Orbitkey logo engraved into the cable holder; one of two locations where the logo is present but both very subtly.

The second unique feature of this premium desk mat is a simple and convenient document hideaway underneath the vegan leather top surface. Here you can store loose papers and notes so they don’t pile up around you. I appreciate this feature as I found myself tucking away larger architectural drawings & sketches here that would normally contribute to much of the unwanted visual clutter on my desk. This is a great way to prevent paper pile-up or hide confidential documents from unwanted eyes, quite simply this feature will keep your immediate workspace tidy.
The Orbitkey Desk Mat protects your desk from scratches, stains and spills. The artificial leather made from polyurethane is exceptionally durable, water-repellent and can be easily wiped clean. whilst the underside of the mat is made from a soft 100% recycled PET felt which is environmentally friendly whilst protecting your desk, I also found it also helps to acoustically dampen typing noise if you use a keyboard with the mat underneath.
