In mid-2020, I was made redundant from my job in midst of COVID-19, I needed something to keep me going mentally and financially during a formidable economic downturn and global instability as the world bands together to fight the pandemic that we all know as COVID-19. It was during these times that I founded MIDST with a vision to start up a small social project to better serve the community by providing an elevated compact hand sanitation solution for everyone.
Why hand sanitizer? Although the market was quickly becoming oversaturated with never-ending products in this space, I observed and noticed that this market segment was populated with generic, mass-market single-use products. I became frustrated that the cafes and restaurants I visited always had these ugly generic hand sanitizers and I thought to myself. As a business owner “would I be content with that being the first point of interaction with my customers?”. The answer was a renowned “No”. It was then that I realized there was an opportunity to create an elevated product that had greater consideration from brand/design, sustainability, and the product itself to offer the industry. MIDST is proudly supporting local F&B and is now available at a curation of cafes, restaurants, hotels, co-working spaces, and clubhouses in Hong Kong.
How did we elevate? Starting with the product, we formulated a solution that was perfect for use while traveling or when running water and hand wash was not readily available. Moving onto the packaging, we decided on glass bottles and not harmful single-use plastics that damage our environment The MIDST bottle feels premium to the touch and importantly they are recyclable; we encourage our customers to return them for refills in the future.
Our formula is further infused with Sea Salt & Sage fragrance which is inspired by the natural environment of Hong Kong to evoke a sense of calm with every spray. We worked closely with a local perfumist in Hong Kong on the unique scent which is reminiscent of Victoria Harbour and the outlying highlands.
Most importantly, we are here to lend a helping hand, at MIDST we employ other former hospitality staff as part of our team to fulfil manufacturing, packaging, bottling, sales, and distribution.
